Server-side tracking, analytics and first-party data you can trust

We are a server-side tracking agency in Mallorca that puts measurement in order before media spend: GA4 with a plan behind it, consent done properly, server-side tagging and first-party data flowing from your forms and CRM to your campaigns, always in your name.

What it is

Why measurement comes before spend

Measurement comes before spend because automated campaigns learn from the conversions they receive: when those are double-counted or lost, they optimise on bad data and you decide blind. Server-side tracking and sound analytics only support decisions when the data is collected properly: with consent, correct tags and your first-party data connected. So we measure first and scale second.

That means connecting Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager on the site (and server-side where it pays off), a consent platform following the guidance of Spain's data protection authority (AEPD), Consent Mode v2, enhanced conversions and the Meta Conversions API. Signal is not lost because Chrome removed third-party cookies (it kept them) but through consent and Safari and Firefox restrictions. That is why first-party data, given to you directly and with permission, carries more weight.

This page covers collection: consent, tagging, first-party data and reporting. What is modelled afterwards (marketing mix modelling, incrementality tests and budget scenarios) belongs to our marketing measurement service. Set up by conversion tracking specialists, this layer also underpins Google Ads, paid social and conversion rate optimisation; basic tracking on a new site sits within web design.

In depth

GA4 with a measurement plan behind it

Setting up Google Analytics 4 properly starts with the business questions it must answer, not the tag. They become a measurement plan: which events are key, their parameters and naming, so the data still compares cleanly a year from now.

As Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager consultants, we document the data layer and configure what GA4 leaves unset by default: cross-domain tracking with booking engines or payment gateways, internal traffic and BigQuery export. For seasonal businesses such as hotels and travel, we also compare each season with the last, and each language separately.

  • Key events: purchases, bookings, forms, calls or WhatsApp.
  • Values, real or estimated, for leads too.
  • Custom channel groups, including traffic from AI assistants.

Server-side tracking: what it is and when it pays off

Server-side tracking sends your site's events to a server you control, usually a GTM server container on your own subdomain, which forwards them to GA4, Google Ads or Meta. You gain control over outgoing data and steadier measurement.

Server-side tagging in GTM pays off if you advertise continuously or must filter personal data before sharing it, though it adds hosting and maintenance costs. To serve only Google tags from your domain, the Google tag gateway for advertisers (formerly 'first-party mode') is lighter: generally available since 8 May 2025 with Cloudflare and since 1 June 2026 on Google Cloud.

One caveat: server-side tracking is not a way around consent.

In depth

Consent Mode v2 passes each visitor's cookie choice to Google tags. With European Economic Area traffic it is essential in practice: since March 2024, without those signals Google Ads cannot build audiences, run remarketing or personalise ads.

It uses four consent types: ad_storage, analytics_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization. Basic mode fires no Google tags until the visitor accepts; Advanced mode loads them anyway and sends cookieless pings for conversion modelling. Because it sends those pings even when the visitor has not accepted, we choose the mode with you and your legal adviser.

In Spain, Article 22.2 of the LSSI-CE and the AEPD cookie guide (May 2024) apply, and consent is still required: the Digital Omnibus proposed in November 2025 would move these rules into the GDPR, but as of October 2026 it is only a proposal.

  • 'Reject' on the same layer and level as 'accept', with a similar mechanism.
  • No cookie walls without a real alternative; consent grouped by purpose.
  • Consent renewed at least every 24 months, as the AEPD recommends.

Meta Conversions API and enhanced conversions

The Meta Conversions API and Google Ads enhanced conversions add hashed first-party data, shared with the user's consent, to recover conversions cookies no longer link, so platforms learn from more real sales.

Meta's one-click Conversions API, launched in 2026, only covers web events: CRM sales, calls and custom events need a proper Meta Conversions API set-up, deduplicated against the Pixel. Google Ads merged enhanced conversions for web and leads into one setting and, since April 2026, accepts data from the tag, Data Manager and the API at once.

ChatGPT ads, served in Spain since 24 August 2026, join the measurement plan before any spend: tagged URLs and conversions defined and tested, as our ChatGPT Ads guide explains. The campaigns themselves sit with our ChatGPT advertising service.

First-party data and clean-room readiness

First-party data is what your company collects directly from customers and contacts, with their permission: forms, purchases, bookings, subscriptions and your CRM. It is the steadiest signal you have, because it sits in your own systems and does not depend on third-party cookies, and it is earned through a clear exchange: something useful in return for the data.

The work starts with CRM hygiene and an identifier that ties the form to the sale. Offline conversions then flow back to Google Ads and Meta, hashed and only for people who consented. Where the sale closes away from the website, as in a professional services firm or a training centre, that teaches campaigns which contacts became clients. A private clinic has a stricter limit: health data is a special category under the GDPR, so events record that someone asked for an appointment, never why, and no clinical information reaches ad platforms. The sequences built on that CRM belong to marketing automation.

A data clean room lets you match your first-party data with a platform's or a retailer's without either side seeing the other's individual records. It only pays off at a certain scale, for example for consumer brands investing in retail media. For most companies, being ready is enough: consistent identifiers, documented consent and connections such as Google Ads Data Manager. Our article on the future of digital marketing explains why first-party data carries more weight.

  • CRM hygiene: consistent fields, duplicates resolved and the source of every contact.
  • Documented consent: what each person agreed to, when and for what.
  • Offline conversions: sales, appointments and qualified leads sent back to the platforms.

Reporting, AI visibility and data that's yours

A good report says what happened, why and what to do next: Looker Studio dashboards joining GA4, Google Ads, Meta, Search Console and your CRM, plus a monthly report flagging measurement gaps.

AI visibility is now partly measurable with official tools: since 31 August 2026, Search Console shows every site its AI Overviews and AI Mode impressions, without clicks or CTR, and Bing Webmaster Tools' AI Performance report, in public preview since February 2026, shows Copilot citations. Both feed our generative engine optimisation (GEO) work.

Accounts, containers and dashboards stay in your name. AI helps us spot anomalies, on aggregated data, with a person reviewing every conclusion. A report describes what was measured; knowing which sales each channel truly caused takes modelling, and that is the job of marketing measurement.

The SERMAN approach

Why measure with SERMAN

  1. Measurement tied to decisions

We track what changes an investment decision, not what fills a dashboard.

  2. Compliance by design

Real consent, and personal data filtered before it leaves your server.

  3. Your data, documented

Accounts, containers and dashboards in your name, with a plan any team can follow.

What it is not

What this service isn't

  • We don't use server-side tracking to get around consent or to follow people who reject cookies.
  • We don't promise to capture every conversion: consent and browsers leave gaps, and we explain them.
  • We don't sell 'the end of cookies': Chrome keeps third-party cookies.
  • It doesn't include marketing mix modelling or incrementality tests: our marketing measurement service covers those, starting from this data.
  • It isn't legal advice on your site's legal texts.

What we measure

Signs of healthy measurement

Data you can rely on.

  1. Consent rate

    By purpose, language and device.

  2. Reconciliation with sales

Gaps between GA4, ad platforms and your CRM or shop.

  3. Signal quality

Enhanced conversions diagnostics and Event Match Quality in Meta.

  4. Event coverage

Key events still recording correctly after every site change.

  5. First-party data in use

CRM sales and qualified leads sent back to the platforms, with consent.

  6. AI visibility

AI Overviews and AI Mode impressions, Copilot citations and visits from assistants.

Who it's for

A particularly good fit if…

  • Your Google Ads or Meta figures don't match your sales.
  • You run an online shop and GA4 doesn't reflect your orders or where they come from.
  • You generate leads in health, education or professional services and close offline.
  • You want to use your CRM data in your campaigns, or start an AI project, and it is scattered.
  • Your cookie banner doesn't offer 'reject' at the same level as 'accept'.
  • You're migrating or redesigning your site and want to keep your history.

Compliance

Rules and policies we apply

Not a substitute for legal advice.

  1. Cookies: LSSI-CE and AEPD guide

Prior consent for non-exempt cookies, 'reject' at the same level as 'accept' and no cookie walls.

  2. Google EU User Consent Policy

Valid consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, passed on through Consent Mode v2.

Clear information at every form, data minimisation and a data processing agreement with each provider.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is server-side tracking and what is it for?

It routes your site's events through a server on your own domain, usually a Google Tag Manager server container, before they reach GA4, Google Ads or Meta. You control what leaves; consent still applies.

What is Consent Mode v2 and is it mandatory?

It passes each visitor's cookie choice to Google tags. No law requires it as such, but with EEA traffic Google's policy makes it essential for audiences, remarketing and personalisation.

How do you set up Google Analytics 4 correctly?

Plan first, then implement through Google Tag Manager with consent, cross-domain tracking and internal traffic excluded, and validate against real sales. A good GA4 consultant documents it so it lasts.

What is the Meta Conversions API?

It sends events from your server to Meta alongside the Pixel, deduplicated, so conversions aren't lost. The one-click version covers web events only; CRM sales, calls and custom events need a custom integration.

Is Chrome getting rid of third-party cookies?

No. Google kept them in April 2025 and retired most Privacy Sandbox APIs in October 2025. Signal is lost through consent and Safari and Firefox restrictions, which is why first-party data and server-side tagging still matter.

Can I measure traffic from ChatGPT or AI Overviews?

Partly. Assistant visits show in GA4 as referrals when they pass on their origin, and we group them into their own channel. For AI Overviews, Search Console's dedicated report shows impressions, not clicks.

What does a cookie banner need to comply with Spanish rules?

Under the AEPD guide: prior consent for analytics and advertising cookies, 'reject' in the same layer and at the same level as 'accept', grouped purposes and no cookie walls without an alternative. As good practice, consent is renewed within 24 months.
